It was a foodie's dream at Liberty North over the weekend when Barrie's Top Chef was crowned at the hottest culinary event of the year. 11 local chefs took part in "Top Cheflicious".
All 11 chefs created delicious dishes, but it was Amanda Rider and her team from Dunlop Street Diner who took home the crown thanks to their roast beef & yorkshire benedict with pickled beet horseradish & brown butter hollandaise.
Rider said the inspiration for the dish came from her own family, as yorkshire pudding and roast beef was a staple of her family meals growing up. They decided to put a breakfast spin on the dish to pay homage to how they do things "down at the diner" . In total, 11 local restaurants competed at the event. In addition to Dunlop Street Diner, Cravings Fine Food, Farmhouse, Michael & Marion's, 147 Italian, RIPE Juicery, Kenzington's Burger Bar, The Italian Eatery, PIE Wood Fired Pizza Joint, Barnstormer and The North were all on hand. The dishes ranged from smoked trout to pulled pork to meatball sandwiches, and even Korean BBQ jackfruit lettuce wraps.
Top Cheflicious serves as an unofficial kick off to the Barrielicious Festival. All 11 restaurants that competed in Top Chef are a part of Barrielicious, along with many other local eateries. Barrielicious begins Friday, January 18th and runs until February 3rd. You can find all the details, including the names of participating restaurants and their menus here .
