Now that the weather is starting to warm up, our thoughts to to outdoor activities. If you're an avid angler, Simcoe County is the place to be. With our proximity to so many bodies of water, there is plenty of opportunity to reel in a big one. Here are a few great places to shore fish in and around Barrie.
Atherley Narrows
The Atherley Narrows is the spot where Lake Couchiching and Lake Simcoe meet. It's also a great spot to fish for some perch from the shoreline.
Kempenfelt Bay
Shoreline fishing is permitted all along Barrie's waterfront, except for at the docks at the foot of Bayfield St, at the Southshore Community Centre or at any public beaches. That still leaves you plenty of room to drop a line. Kempenfelt Bay is home to perch, smallmouth bass, whitefish, and lake trout.
Cooks Bay
Cook's Bay is a large bay just off of Lake Simcoe. The Holland River empties in to the south end of Cook's Bay, making it a hotspot for jumbo perch and trohpy pike. Largemouth bass and smallmouth bass also call this large weedy bay home.
Highway 90 Bridge
This spot on the Nottawasaga River through Angus is a busy fishing spot. You'll find lots of people and plenty of different kinds of fish. Even salmon in the late summer/fall.
Wasaga Beach
Makes sense that the longest freshwater beach in the world would also be a great spot to give shore fishing a try. You can catch rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, splake, pickerel and even salmon at the right time of year.
