Beat The Heat! A Guide To Splash Pads In Simcoe County

Pools and lakes aren't the only way to cool off this summer! Splash pads are the perfect alternative for young ones who haven't learned to swim yet and can be a fun way to mix it up for kids who have.

Here in Simcoe County, we have no shortage of splash pads! Best of all, most of them are free!

Barrie

If you're looking for splash pads in Barrie, be sure to check out these locations:

Lampman Lane Splash Pad - 59 Lampman Lane, Barrie

Lampman Lane Park is a great place to spend the day with kids. There is an accessible playground, baseball field, basketball court, community garden, and, of course, a splash pad.

The splash pad and washrooms are open from 9 AM to 8 PM until Labour Day.

Heritage Park - 5 Simcoe Street, Barrie

Heritage Park in Barrie is not only home to a splash pad ... it's also a great place to take in the city's natural beauty. The park has fabulous views of the bay, as well as a pond, a stream, walkways, gardens, and an arboretum.

Because of the way the splash pad was designed, the fountains run for 45 seconds and turn off for 90 seconds to allow the water to drain.

Splash ON Water Parks ($$$) - 55 Lakeshore Drive, Barrie

Splash ON isn't exactly a splash pad. It's the largest floating water park in Canada and is perfect for anyone over the age of 5.

Passes range from $25 to $28 depending on what time slot you book. Children 5 to 8 require an adult chaperone but tickets are 50% OFF for the chaperone.

Orillia

Orillia has more splash pads than any other city, town, or village in Simcoe County. They're all open from 9 AM to 9 PM, with the exception of the Tudhope splash pad, which is open from 11 AM to 7 PM.

Clayt French Park - 114 Atlantis Drive, Orillia

Clayt French is located on the west side of Orillia, the park has an accessible playground, a multipurpose court, a large grassy area for playing, a picnic area, pathways, and a dog park.

The splash pad is activated by pushing a button and is open until October from 9 AM to 9 PM.

Walter Henry Park - 3050 Orion Boulevard, Orillia

Named after a local boxer, Walter Henry Park opened in 2020 on an 8.3-acre preserved woodlot. The park is home to a maple syrup theme adventure playground with a tree fort, oversized tube slide, and zipline, as well as pickleball courts, a butterfly garden, and a splash pad.

This splash pad is open from 9 AM to 9 PM.

Hillcrest Park - 255 Matchedash Street N, Orillia

Hillcrest Park is located in the north end of Orillia. It has a playground, multi-use court, picnic shelters, and a splash pad with fun sprinklers of varying sizes.

This splash pad is open from 9 AM to 9 PM.

McKinnell Square Park - 135 Dunedin Street, Orillia

McKinnell Square Park is near the heart of Orillia. In addition to a splash pad that's open from 9 AM to 9 PM, it has two baseball diamonds, a playground, and a picnic area.

Victoria Park - 75 Coldwater Road W, Orillia

Victoria Park is home to Orillia's 5th splash pad as well as the annual Art Park. There's also a playground, picnic tables and trails.

This splash pad is open from 9 AM to 9 PM.

JB Tudope Memorial Park - 450 Atherley Road, Orillia

This 65-acre park has plenty of fun activities to offer. In addition to a splash pad with lots of colourful fixtures, there are baseball diamonds, a beach with volleyball courts, flower gardens, a playground, several different monuments, linear and looped trails, water access for kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, and more, lots of parking, and on-site dining. There's also a Splash ON water park (see below for details).

This splash pad is open from 11 AM to 7 PM.

Splash ON Water Parks ($$$) - 450 Atherley Road, Orillia

Like Barrie, Orillia has a floating Splash ON Water Park filled with tons of great obstacles. Admission to this park is slightly cheaper at $22 per person ($11 for chaperones accompanying children 5 to 8).

The park is open from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

Springwater Township

There's currently only one splash pad in Springwater Township and it's located in Elmvale.

Homer Barrett Park - 43 Centennial Avenue, Elmvale

In spring 2023, Springwater Township began updating the playground and splash pad at Homer Barrett Park.

Open from 9 AM to 8 PM, the splash pad features 20 fun fixtures including an archway, hoops, a water tower, a bucket that tips over when full, and much more.

Georgian Bay

There are several different towns on the shores of Georgian Bay with splash pads your family can enjoy.

Penetaguishene Rotary Champlain Wendat Park - Robert Street W, Penetanguishene

With 90 acres of space to enjoy, this park offers tons of great amenities. There's a covered pavilion, accessible playground, skateboard park, beach, dog park, lots of parking, and a splash pad that is open from 10 AM to 8 PM until September 15.

The park can also be accessed from 26 Main St and 8 Owen St in Penetang.

Splash Park - 87 Beach Drive, Wasaga Beach

This splash pad is located in Beach 1 area and has a great view of Georgian Bay. The pad features a tunnel of misting arches, mini water mills, and palm tree fountains.

This splash pad is open from 10 AM to 8 PM.

Optimist Harbourview Park - Cedar Street, Collingwood

Harbourview Park in Collingwood offers easy access to the waterfront as well as boardwalk trails, and views of the park's wetlands. In addition to their current offerings, a new splash pad began construction just before the pandemic.

This $2.5 million splash pad will be called the Awen Waterplay Area and is expected to be open in July 2023, though there have already been several delays.

Essa Township

Essa Township consists of Angus, Thorton, Baxter, and several other small hamlets. It's also home to 3 splash pads.

Angus Community Park - 6 Huron Street, Angus

Angus Community Park is host to many outdoor amenities. This includes a playground, adult fitness equipment, fishing access, and trails. There's also a great splash pad that's open from 10 AM to 8 PM.

Greenwood-McCann Park (Stonemount Park) - 155 Greenwood Drive, Angus

Also located in Angus, Greenwood-McCann Park is equipped with picnic tables, a playground, seasonal washrooms, basketball nets, and a splash pad.

The splash pad is open from 10 Am to 8 PM.

Thornton Community Park - 246 Barrie Street, Thornton

Thorton Community Park is home to a splash pad, as well as picnic areas, a playground, baseball facilities, basketball nets, and more.

Township Of New Tecumseth

New Tecomseth has 4 different water parks, which are each open from 9 AM to 8 PM until Labour Day.

Riverdale Park - 237 Fletcher Crescent, Alliston

Head to Riverdale Park in Alliston to find the Rotary Splash Pad. The park also features a brand-new accessible playground that was built in 2022.

Treetop's Park - 29 Willoughby Way N, Alliston

Also located in Alliston, this park's biggest draw is a multi-level tree-themed adventure playground, with vine climbers, a sound panel, a rock block wall, a treehouse, and more. There's also beach volleyball, basketball, a lookout area and a splash pad.

Beeton Community Memorial Arena - 22 Second St, Beeton

Beside the Beeton Community Memorial Arena and Beeton Community Park is a splash pad for families to enjoy.

Tottenham Community Centre - 139 Queen Street N, Tottenham

You can find another splash pad next to the Tottenham Community Centre.

Township Of Innisfil

If you're in the Innisfil area and want to cool down, check out these two splash pads. Both are open from 9 Am to 9 PM.

Innisfil Town Square - 971 Innisfil Beach Road, Innisfil

Innisfil plans on introducing a splash pad to Town Square in Summer 2023. This location will have washrooms and lockers, as well as high and low splash zones. Be sure to check the Innisfil site for updates.

Cookstown Community Park - 20 Church St, Cookstown

Beside the Cookstown Library, you will find a fun splash pad along with a playground, resting area and washrooms.

Bradford - West Gwillimbury

Bradford West Gwillimbury has 6 different splash pads open from 9 Am to 9 PM daily.

Henderson Memorial Community Park - 3171 9th Line, Bradford

Henderson Memorial Community Park opened in 2018. Nearly 100 acres in size, the park has play structures, a small woodlot, tennis and basketball courts, soccer fields, trails, and a splash pad with ground and overhead sprayers. There are no plumbed-in washrooms but portable toilets are on site.

Ron Simpson Memorial Park - 251 Crossland Boulevard, Bradford

Previously Dreamsfield Park, this location was renamed after a former councillor. Ron Simpson Memorial Park has a playground, trails, and sports areas in addition to the splash pad.

Middletown Park - 140 Langford Boulevard, Bradford

Middletown Park is slated to be renamed Constable Devon Northup Memorial Park in honour of the officer who was killed in the line of duty in early 2023.

In addition to the splash pad, Middletown Park also has a playground, walking trails, basketball courts and a covered structure where you can enjoy some time out of the sun.

Alan Kuzmich Memorial Park - 68 Aishford Road, Bradford

Head to the Alan Kuzmich Memorial Park for some more splash pad fun. While there, you can also enjoy the playground, soccer fields and basketball courts.

Lions Park - 220 Colborne Street, Bradford

There's no shortage of parking at Lions Park in Bradford. Stop by to play at the splash pad, playground or one of the many sports courts and fields.

Green Valley Park - 115 Barrow Avenue, Bradford

Green Valley Park has a splash pad as well as baseball diamonds, and a playground.
