Local youth have the opportunity to audition for a professional show as well as participate in a musical theatre program. Both have served as a training ground for numerous young people over the years. Last year’s show included two Barrie youth, two from Elmvale, among a cast of other youth from around Simcoe County.
Drayton Entertainment will be holding auditions for this year’s show Sleeping Beauty: The Panto which will be staged in June at the King’s Wharf Theatre in Penetanguishene. The Feb. 8 auditions will determine this year’s Children’s Chorus for the show. The youth cast age nine to 15 will be divided into teams and will perform in the show on a rotating schedule. Young performers must sign up in advance. Auditions will be held at James Keating Public School in Penetanguishene.

Five years ago, Drayton Entertainment started a Youth Musical Theatre Program to provide aspiring young performers an opportunity to learn from professional theatre artists and develop a deeper appreciation for live performance. Students receive training in singing, dancing, acting, audition technique, and technical theatre.
This week-long program takes place in Penetanguishene July 20-24 for ages 10 to 18. More information about the Youth Musical Theatre Program, including tuition costs and audition requirements, is available at www.youthmusicaltheatreprogram.com
