BarrieFolk joins forces with the Mariposa Folk Foundation to bring three Canadian music icons to the Five Points Theatre on March 15.
The concert, which features Lynn Miles, Valdy and Suzie Vinnick, is in honour of the 60th anniversary of the Mariposa Folk Festival. All three are accomplished singer/songwriters.
Lynn Miles is the winner of multiple Canadian Folk Music awards and a 2003 Juno award for Roots and Traditional Solo Album of the Year. She has a solid solo career and also tours with Lynne Hanson in a duo known as The LYNNeS. In 2018, the duo won two Canadian Folk Music Awards.
Recent solo albums include songs of winter and Christmas. The Downpour record centers on songs of love and life, darkness and light.
Valdy is a Juno award-winning folk legend. He has 16 albums, 22 singles and four gold records to his credit.
In addition to touring Canada with regular stops in Barrie, he also plays in New Zealand with Kiwi mate Graham Wardrop. Valdy was invested as a member of the Order of Canada in 2012.
Suzie Vinnick recently received a Special Recognition Award from the 2019 Saskatchewan Jazz Festival and was nominated for a 2018 Canadian Folk Music Award for Producer of the Year with her co-producer, Mark Lalama.
Over the years, she has won 10 Maple Blues Awards. Her latest roots and blues album, recorded with a full band, is called Shake The Love Around.
The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Five Points Theatre, One Dunlop St. W., Barrie. Tickets are $35, available online at barriefolk.com as well as at the box office.
