The World Health Organization is advising people to follow five simple steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and they couldn't be easier: cough into your elbow, don't touch your face, stay more than 3ft (1m) away from others, stay at home if you feel sick, and wash your hands.
That last point, while definitely simple, is crucially important and has been expanded on with a few extra tips on when and how to wash your hands to maximize its effectiveness. Wash your hands after coughing or sneezing, when caring for the sick, before eating, after toilet use, when hands are visibly dirty, after handling animal waste, and before, during, and after you prepare food. The best handwashing technique is also outlined in the video below.
