In a video uploaded to YouTube titled "Epilogue", Daft Punk has announced they are calling it quits and ending their nearly 30-year musical career.
After forming in 1993, the legendary electronic duo blew up when they released their landmark album Homework, which featured many now-classic songs like "Around The World" and "Da Funk". Their follow-up, Discovery, was another smash hit with songs like "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" and "One More Time", the former being sampled in Kanye West's "Stronger".
After releasing their third and fourth albums (the fourth being a live EP), Daft Punk went on to helm the soundtrack for Tron: Legacy which sort of stole the show and was even recently re-released featuring some brand-new tracks. Even after all this success though, the duo wasn't done yet and in 2013 they released the album Random Access Memory which included the absolute ear-bug of a song "Get Lucky" featuring Pharrell Williams.
With their amazing songs and iconic helmeted look, Daft Punk is one of the rare musical groups that have invaded every aspect of pop-culture. They have collaborated with some of the biggest names in music and film, are endlessly sampled in other tracks, have been immortalized in art galleries around the world, and are parodied in countless television shows from Family Guy to The Simpsons.
Iconic and unforgettable, Daft Punk will be sorely missed...but what an incredible 28 years it's been.
