Barrie police are grateful for the call they received about a possible impaired driver in the city's east end early Saturday.

Spokesperson Peter Leon tells Barrie 360 the caller provided very detailed information that included the licence plate of the vehicle and officers were able to locate the car and stop it. Police say the 31-year-old female driver from Barrie was almost five times over the legal limit.

"I can't recall in the last number of years seeing readings that were that high. It's dangerous, and in fact, it's beyond criminal for somebody to be out on our streets with an impairment level that high," says Leon.

He says the motorist was also a suspended driver.

Leon again praised the citizen who alerted police.

"It goes hand-in-hand in order to keep our community and our streets safe," he added.
