Summer is here, and that means the time has come to spend your days zipping through the water with the wind in your hair. Simcoe County and Muskoka have no shortage of beautiful scenery and things to do dotted along their many lakes and rivers, so here's our list of 7 day trips to take on your boat this summer.
Trent-Severn Waterway
With 386 km of interconnected paths, the Trent-Severn Waterway is a real treat to explore. Travel through lumber towns, farm villages, and the pre-Cambrian landscape of the Canadian Shield. You can also watch the Big Chute Railway in action and stare up at the towering Peterborough Lift Lock.
Christian Island
Launching from Midland or Wasaga Beach? Take a trip across Georgian Bay to see the beautiful Christian Island. Part of the Ojibwe reserve, this over 5000-hectare island is home to the Beausoleil First Nation, and with its blue waters and picturesque lighthouse, it makes for an awesome day trip with the family.
The waters near Big Chief Island
This one usually takes some clearing up and it's very important to do so. The waters around Big Chief Island are warm, beautiful, and full of swimming and fishing opportunities, however, the island itself is a sacred burial site for the Rama First Nation. If you are going to visit, give the island a wide birth and show the area the respect it deserves.
Hope Island
The Northernmost of three islands in southern Georgian Bay, Hope Island is an uninhabited island that is also part of the Beausoleil First Nation. Besides the usual swimming and fishing you can find around the island, there is also a historic lighthouse built in 1884 that is worth a visit to snap a few pictures!
Discovery Harbour
While the actual park may be closed (for now) that doesn't mean it's not worth a trip in the boat to Discovery Harbour. You may not be able to see the inside of them but the replica warship, schooner, and cargo vassal located on the site of a 19th-century British garrison are still a very cool site to see from your boat!
Wasaga Beach
You can't have a list of best boating trips and not include the longest freshwater beach in the entire world! Amazing places to swim, delicious places to eat, and beautiful sites to see, Wasaga Beach never disappoints! Being a short way from the always gorgeous Collingwood and Blue Mountain area is just an added bonus too.
Muskoka Wharf
If you're looking for another all-in-one destination, the Muskoka Wharf is filled with shops, waterfront dining, local attractions, and wonderful sites to take in. Whether you stay on the water or dock and take a trip inland, the Muskoka Wharf is just another amazing boat trip you really need to take this summer.
