The controversial show "The Idol" won't see season 2. The HBO series created by Sam Levinson and Abel Tesfaye "The Weeknd" has been cancelled after just one season that consisted of five episodes.
Starring Lily Rose Depp and Tesfaye, "The Idol" had a lot of buzz around it before it even premiered, with rumours about a toxic set and the departure of original director Amy Seimetz.
Although audiences were intrigued with the steamy show, they ultimately didn't have much love for it.
"The Idol" was largely panned by viewers and critics and saw declining ratings as the weeks passed.
In a statement, HBO explained " 'The Idol' was one of HBO's most provocative original programs, and we're pleased by the strong audience response. After much thought and consideration, HBO, as well as the creators and producers, have decided not to move forward with a second season. We're grateful to the creators, cast, and crew for their incredible work."
