Damage is pegged at between $50,000 and $60,000 to a home struck by lightning in Thornton.

Essa Township Deputy Fire Chief Gary McNamara told Barrie 360 in an email that crews were alerted around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, and when they got to the home they found no fire conditions, but an investigation located high temperatures and smouldering trusses in the attic that had to be extinguished.

There were two occupants at home, and one was assessed by paramedics

At the time of the lightning strike, the area was under a severe thunderstorm watch from Environment Canada.
