An eagle-eyed person alerted Barrie police to a suspected impaired driver in the city's south-end, and said there was a child in the backseat.
Just after 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, the caller reported that the motorist had left a plaza parking lot at Essa Road and Mapleton Avenue. The person provided detailed information about the vehicle that included the make, model, colour and the licence plate.
A short time later, police located the vehicle on Ardagh Road and stopped it after it turned northbound onto County Road 27.
"A 30-year-old male from Barrie who was driving exhibited signs of impairment and later failed an approved screening device test after a demand was made. He was arrested and transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where a qualified breathalyzer technician determined that his ability to operate a conveyance was impaired by alcohol," police said in a news release on Monday.
The motorist was charged with impaired driving.
He has a court date later this month.
The vehicle was impounded for seven days, and the man's driver's licence was suspended for 90 days.
