A suspect was arrested by Barrie police following a break-and-enter report at a residential complex.
Officers were called on Friday just after 1:30 p.m. to the incident in progress at the residence on St. Vincent Street at Grove Street East.
"Initial reports received indicated that a lone male was trying to break down a door and he was using tools to forcibly gain entry," police wrote in a release on Monday.
Police say they found a male outside the building who fit the description provided in the report.
"The male provided police with an explanation as to why he was trying to break in, but the officers were able to determine that was not the case, and that the narrative provided was designed to detract from the real reason for the attempted entry," officers added.
A 34-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested.
He has been charged with mischief under $5,000 - regarding damage to the apartment door - as well as possession of a break-in instrument.
He was released and is scheduled for Barrie court in September.
