Barrie police have charged a 52-year-old resident in connection with a series of break and enters to businesses in the city.
On Tuesday, officers investigated three break-ins, two at a plaza on the southeast corner of Anne and Dunlop Streets, and a third, around 4:30 a.m. at a nearby plaza at 29 Anne St. South.
"From the investigations that followed, police were able to determine that an object had been thrown through the front door of each business which caused the glass to break and allowed the offender to enter and exit the stores prior to police arrival," police said in a news release on Thursday.
Late Tuesday afternoon, detectives arrested a suspect in downtown Barrie.
Police say the accused was wearing the same clothing as what was seen in the video surveillance at one of the break-ins that occurred at the plaza located at Anne and Dunlop Streets.
As the investigation continued, detectives tied the accused to a break-in at a restaurant at a Duckworth Street plaza sometime after closing on Sept. 29 and when staff arrived the following morning.
The accused was charged with four counts of break and enter and was also wanted on a Canada Wide Warrant for failing to abide by his statutory release.
He was remanded in custody and has a court date Oct. 8 by video link.
