County Road 4 between Line 9 and Line 11 as well as Line 10 between Sideroad 10 and County Road 4 in Bradford West Gwillimbury will be closed to through traffic from October 21, 2024, until December 13, 2024. This temporary road closure is necessary to facilitate the replacement of the Scanlon Creek culvert that is located at the intersection of County Road 4 and Line 10.
Through traffic will not be permitted during this seven-week closure, except for strict access to residential and commercial properties that are located within the construction limits. A clearly marked detour will be provided via Line 8, Sideroad 10 and County Road 89. Access to Line 10 east of County Road 4 will also be maintained from the south of the intersection.
Travellers are urged to exercise caution and adhere to all detour and advisory signage during this period. The project is anticipated to shut down for the winter in December 2024 and resume in Spring 2025 with an expected completion in December 2025.
Please note that Bradford Greenhouses remain open for business during the construction period and can be accessed from Line 12 or Yonge Street, south of County Road 89.
The County of Simcoe previously awarded the contract to Georgian Paving with a tender bid price of $17.4 million for the widening and reconstruction of this section of County Road 4. The scope of the entire project is aimed to widen County Road 4 to four lanes, place a signalized intersection at Line 9, install intersection illumination at Line 10, install new storm sewers, drainage and ditching, and install a multi-use pathway.
This is just one of the many road projects that are being undertaken throughout the County as part of the Building Up initiative. Reconstructing and rehabilitating roads, bridges and culverts are an important aspect of ensuring safety for our road users and keeping our communities connected for years to come.
