So close, and really, not so far.

The Thanksgiving campaign at the Barrie Food Bank has been extended until Oct. 31 as the monetary target of $250,000 is just $50,000 short, according to executive director Karen Shuh. She says that is still 9 per cent more compared to last year.

"We count that as minor win," Shuh said in an email to Barrie 360.

The food donation ask was 150,000 pounds, and 150,877 pounds was collected, which is an increase of 28 per cent from last year.

"A big shout to the schools, service clubs, the Rock 95 turkey drop and grocery store pre-packaged bags that put us over the top," Shuh added.

The food bank assists about 7,000 individuals each month.

37 per cent of people using the food bank are children.
