Home Sweet Home takes place on October 17, bringing together local residents and organizations to support vital services for those in need. The event, at Traditions Banquet Hall on John Street in Barrie, aims to raise $20,000 to fund collaborative programming between Barrie Families Unite and R&R Programs for Restoring Relationships.

Nikki Glahn, founder of Barrie Families Unite, and R&R's Amber McCauley are spearheading this initiative to offer a range of services that address both emotional and practical needs within the community. The programs combine restorative justice, mindfulness, and emotional intelligence, while also providing essentials like food, clothing, and household items.

“We’re excited to bring this platform to the community,” says McCauley. “This event will showcase everything from contractors and decor services to a live painting, which will be auctioned off at the end. Every dollar raised goes toward helping those in need in Simcoe County.”

The programs supported by the event aim to provide free and low-barrier services to those over the age of 16. From five-week group programs offered at Georgian College to good food boxes and volunteer opportunities, the event’s proceeds will help hundreds of people struggling with financial and emotional difficulties.

Barrie Families Unite, which has been active for over three years, has already made an impact by addressing essential needs like food and seasonal clothing, especially during the pandemic. Glahn notes the need for services has grown, particularly among low-income families and single parents.

McCauley’s R&R Programs, which also originated in response to the pandemic, focus on helping people rebuild relationships that have been fractured due to mental health challenges, addiction, and community divisions. “Healthy relationships are essential for people to thrive,” she explains. “We’re pairing these services to ensure both emotional and physical well-being are addressed.”

The "Home Sweet Home" event will feature a live and silent auction with a wide variety of items, including home decor, electrical, and general contracting services. Attendees also have the opportunity to "pay it forward" by bidding on services for others in need. Tickets are $60, and all funds raised will directly support programming.

The event will run from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM, and tickets can be purchased via the Home Sweet Home Simcoe County Facebook and Instagram pages.
