After a success last year which saw the City of Barrie's Canada Day on the Move event get named to Festival and Events Ontario's top 100 list, it is returning for 2025.

Two neighbourhood parks will host expanded celebrations of the 158th anniversary of Canada's confederation on Tuesday, which will add on to the festivities downtown which include a fireworks display.

"Canada Day is a special occasion for us in Barrie to come together and celebrate the values that make our city and country strong, such as hard work, freedom, and community," said Mayor Alex Nuttall. "We invite families across the city to take part in our free, family-focused events at local parks. Canada Day On The Move is a great way to honour our heritage, enjoy the outdoors, and create lasting memories. The day will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display that brings us all together as proud Canadians.”

Lampman Lane Park and Painswick Park will each host three-hour pop-up celebrations that will have free face painting, busker performances, inflatables, interactive games, and more.

Programming at Centennial Park will feature a variety of food trucks, entertainment and a zone with paid activities.

Fireworks will end the evening and the show will be visible from multiple vantage points along Barrie’s waterfront. Heritage Park will be closed to the public during the show for safety purposes. In case of inclement weather, fireworks will be held on Wednesday

Dunlop Street will also be closed to vehicles from Maple Avenue to Mulcaster Street during the day, with more activities and vendors populating the busy thoroughfare.

Canada Day will also feature Barrie Transit running on a Sunday schedule, with the last buses leaving the terminal around 10:30 p.m. for passengers attending the fireworks show.
