Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say numerous vehicles on Highway 401 in Mississauga were shot at by a man armed with a handgun early Tuesday.
Around 5 a.m., police say they received numerous 911 calls reporting that a man was seen shooting at passing vehicles on Highway 401 near Dixie Road.
" The individual then stole a vehicle from a motorist in the vicinity of Highway 401, at Highway 410, and fled the area," police said in a news release. "The vehicle was located a short time later abandoned on Fasken Drive in Etobicoke."
The individual is considered armed and dangerous and was last seen at Highway 427 and Fasken Drive.
He is described as:
- Black male
- 25-35 years old
- Approximately 5'10"
- Long braided hair (to the middle of his back)
- Wearing jeans, a blue/grey t-shirt and white and black running shoes
- Wearing a satchel on his shoulder
The public is advised not to approach the individual and call 911 immediately if seen, police said.
No serious injuries resulted from the incident.
Highway 401 eastbound collector lanes at Dixie Road, the Highway 410 southbound to Highway 401 eastbound ramp, and Highway 403 eastbound to Highway 401 eastbound ramps were closed by police for the investigation. All lane closures remained in place until shortly after 3:00 p.m. and have since re-opened.
The investigation is continuing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
