The supervisor of a trucking firm has been given a 5-year prison sentence after an employee driving a company vehicle was killed in a collision near Alliston more than four years ago.

Ontario Provincial Police say the crash happened in September 2020 on Townline Road, between Concession 2 and Concession 3 in New Tecumseth.

Police say the vehicle veered out of control and struck a tree.

Upon further investigation, police said they found the supervisor who owned the commercial vehicle operators registration for the truck involved in the crash failed to properly maintain the vehicle.

In May 2021, a 48-year-old man from Etobicoke was charged with criminal negligence causing death.

He was convicted last July and sentenced to prison on February 18, 2025.
