A 50-year-old man was shot and injured by an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer Wednesday in Collingwood, prompting the province's special investigations unit to look into the incident.

Just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to a residence on Rhonda Rd. after reports of a disturbance.

One officer approached the home, and an interaction with a man followed. The officer subsequently drew her firearm, and shot him.

The man was taken to a local hospital, where he remains with his injuries.

Two investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.

The SIU investigates when someone is shot at, seriously injured, sexually assaulted or killed by police.
