Barrie woman charged in pedestrian collision near Sadlon Arena is facing other charges

The woman is out on a bail with a surety

Barrie police confirm to Barrie 360 that fraud-related charges were laid against a 32-year-old woman prior to her being charged in a collision on December 1 that seriously injured three people.

The Barrie woman, who appeared in court on Wednesday, faces three counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm in connection with a collision near Sadlon Arena that injured two clients of Empower Simcoe and an employee of the organization.

They were on their way to a Barrie Colts game when they were struck.

All three suffered critical injuries.

In late January, several players with the Barrie Colts and the team owner paid a visit to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre to meet with Jeff Janes and Sean, and sign autographs for them.

Melanie Smith, a support worker with Empower Simcoe, who at the time had been released from the hospital also joined them.

Empower Simcoe provides support services to people in the community with intellectual and physical disabilities.

The woman, who spent five weeks in jail after her arrest and was released on bail to a surety in January, will be back in court next month.

The charges against her have not been tested in court.
