Barrie Fire & Emergency Service (BFES) invites residents to participate in Fire Prevention Week, October 5 to 11, 2025.  This year’s campaign, “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home” strives to educate the community about how to buy, charge, and dispose of lithium-ion batteries safely. Most of the electronics we use in our homes every day are powered by lithium-ion batteries. In fact, almost everything that’s rechargeable uses this kind of battery.

“This year, Fire Prevention Week is about keeping pace with the way we live today. From cell phones to e-bikes, lithium-ion batteries are everywhere in our homes and when they’re damaged or charged improperly, they can become dangerous,” says Fire Chief Kevin White. “Our message is simple: by charging smart and staying alert, we can prevent fires before they start and keep our loved ones safe.”
