
Barrie Fire & Emergency Service (BFES) invites residents to participate in Fire Prevention Week, October 5 to 11, 2025. This year’s campaign, “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home” strives to educate the community about how to buy, charge, and dispose of lithium-ion batteries safely. Most of the electronics we use in our homes every day are powered by lithium-ion batteries. In fact, almost everything that’s rechargeable uses this kind of battery.
“This year, Fire Prevention Week is about keeping pace with the way we live today. From cell phones to e-bikes, lithium-ion batteries are everywhere in our homes and when they’re damaged or charged improperly, they can become dangerous,” says Fire Chief Kevin White. “Our message is simple: by charging smart and staying alert, we can prevent fires before they start and keep our loved ones safe.”
BFES will be visiting schools throughout Fire Prevention Week and is hosting several free community events, including:
- Ask Barrie Fire: Monday, October 6,at 9 a.m. Home Hardware at 520 Bayfield Street North
- Ask Barrie Fire: Wednesday, October 8, at 10:30 a.m., Rona Home and Garden at 61 Mapleview Drive East
- Ask Barrie Fire: Wednesday, October 8, at 1:30 p.m., Rona+ at 71 Bryne Drive
- Barrie Fire Takeover + Kids Workshop: Saturday, October 11, at 9 a.m., Home Depot at 10 Barrie View Drive
Since 1922, the National Fire Prevention Association has sponsored the public observance of Fire Prevention Week–a week where everyone can learn how to stay safe in case of a fire.
