The Ontario government is providing the Barrie Police Service with more than $1.26 million as part of a $91 million investment it says will help to protect families and communities across the province.

The funding is being delivered through the Community Safety and Policing Grant, with $500,000 to be used for Project CryptoCatalyst, $460,000 to Project Furthering Our Capabilities, and $300,789 dedicated to Project Align.

"This investment will have a direct impact on public safety in our region and ensure that Barrie Police Service front-line officers are equipped to maintain the law and order for local law-abiding residents," said Andrea Khanjin, MPP for Barrie-Innisfil, in a news release.

The Barrie Police Service projects are part of 127 projects being funded across the province for 2025-26.

Of those, 88 projects will address local priorities and 39 projects will address provincial priorities, including gun and gang-related violence, sexual violence and harassment, human trafficking, mental health and addictions, hate-motivated crimes, housing and homelessness, and commercial/retail theft.

Khanjin also announced South Simcoe Police Service will receive more than $762,000 from the same pool of cash.

From that funding, $299,781 will be used for Project COMPASS (Community-Oriented Mental Health Partnership and Support Strategy), and $462,840 will be allocated to Project RISE (Resilience, Intervention, Support, Empowerment).
