Barrie’s Toy Tea is back this Wednesday, November 19, at Georgian BMW on Essa Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event blends festive cheer with community spirit, featuring a lively fashion show, local food vendors, and a mission to support families during the holiday season.
Organizer Angela Baldwin describes the Toy Tea as “a feel-good holiday Christmas event” that brings people together for a cause. Guests are asked to bring an unwrapped toy or gift card as their entry, with donations benefiting Christmas Cheer and the Barrie Food Bank.
From Living Rooms to Showrooms
What began as a grassroots gathering in private homes has grown into one of Barrie’s most cherished holiday events. “It started in people’s homes—they allowed over 100 people to come in,” Baldwin explains. “Then it grew beyond the capacity of most homes, so we moved to the BMW dealership, and we’ve been there ever since.”
Fashion for All
A highlight of the day is the 45-minute fashion show at noon, showcasing models of all ages and sizes. “We have models from two years up to 80, and sizes two up to 20,” Baldwin says. “We believe everybody is beautiful and want to represent everyone in the community.”
Giving Back in Style
The Toy Tea isn’t just about toys—it’s about making a real impact. Last year, the event raised over $46,000 through donations, gift cards, and raffle proceeds. This year’s raffle features more than 50 prizes. Baldwin notes that gift cards for teens are especially appreciated, as they’re often overlooked during holiday drives.
Why It Matters
For Baldwin and her team of volunteers, the Toy Tea is more than an event—it’s a celebration of community. “In times like these, people need something positive,” she says. “It’s grassroots, it’s feel-good, and you walk away knowing you’ve helped charities raise $20,000 to $25,000 in one afternoon.”
