Orillia residents will soon enjoy more affordable public transportation thanks to a new initiative from the City of Orillia. Starting January 1, 2026, transit fares will drop to $2 per ride as part of a 15-month pilot program aimed at improving accessibility and mobility for all.
The program, which runs through March 31, 2027, applies to both conventional and specialized transit services. Riders can also take advantage of deeply discounted passes, including a 30-day unlimited cOnnect pass for only $30—just $1 per day—and a new 7-day cOnnect pass option.
“Putting people first is the foundation of this initiative,” said Don McIsaac, Mayor of the City of Orillia. “Affordable transit means more opportunity, more mobility, and a stronger, more connected community. This pilot program reinforces our commitment to making Orillia more inclusive and accessible by ensuring that safe, affordable transit is within reach for all.”
What’s Included in the Pilot Program?
- Single Ride Fare: Reduced to $2.
- 30-Day Unlimited Pass: $30.
- New 7-Day Pass: Available for added flexibility.
- Group Rates: Discounted options for multiple riders.
Children under 12 ride free with a paying adult, teens using cOnnect passes and CNIB cardholders continue to enjoy free fares. Adults over 65 will maintain the existing reduced fare of $2, with no additional discounts under the pilot program.
Current fares remain in effect until December 31, 2025. Riders are encouraged to review their travel habits before purchasing passes, as refunds will not be issued.
Supporting Climate Goals
Beyond affordability, the initiative supports Orillia’s climate objectives by encouraging public transit use, reducing vehicle emissions, and contributing to a cleaner, healthier city.
