An Ontario man is facing charges after he allegedly claimed to be the sole winner of a $1-million group lottery ticket.

A 70-year-old Toronto man is facing theft and fraud charges.

Ontario Provincial Police allege the accused claimed a Lotto Max ticket in July intended to be split among three people.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming's forensic team reviewed initial claims before referring the case to the OPP.

Police say their investigation was launched in September and confirmed the ticket was part of a group play arrangement.

The man faces charges of theft and fraud over $5,000, as well as possession of property obtained by crime.
