Nash, a Belgian Malinois-German Shepherd mix that was born in Hungary, was welcomed to the force after months of intense training alongside his handler, Police Constable Shawn Gwilliam.
Training included tracking, building and area searches, article searches, criminal apprehension and obedience. It was held by the Barrie Police Service Canine Unit.
Nash will begin his career working alongside Constable Gwilliam and fellow canine Nitro until the older dog will be phased out of service.
"Together, they will form a dynamic partnership that strengthens our Canine Unit and enhances our capability to serve the community," the service said in a news release. "Police dogs are an important part of keeping our community safe, from tracking and search duties to supporting operational response."
