Construction work halts GO train service on Barrie line this weekend

Starting tomorrow Saturday, Aug. 15 to Thursday Aug. 28, planned construction is taking place on the Barrie line which will significantly impact your weekend and weekday travel. 

On Saturday Aug. 15 and Sunday Aug. 16, there will be no GO train service on the Barrie line. GO bus service will run between Allandale Waterfront and Rutherford GO, then direct to Hwy 407 Bus Terminal.

There will be no GO Transit service at Downsview Park GO. If you’re at Union or Downsview Park you can use TTC Line 1 to connect to/from GO bus service.

There is a TTC closure this weekend which may cause delays and more transfers than usual. If you’re connecting to TTC, be sure to check their website for service information.

**For customers travelling to and from Aurora GO, from Aug. 15 to 17, there is a planned power shutdown that will affect some of the stations amenities. Please plan ahead and learn more about the station impacts.

On Monday Aug. 17, GO train service will run between Maple GO and Union Station. GO buses will replace train service between Maple and Allandale Waterfront GO.

*All train departure and/or arrival times have been adjusted.  
*All train service will end at 20:00. 

Update- Tuesday, Aug. 18 until Friday, Aug. 28, some train departure and arrival times will be adjusted. Arriving or departing several minutes before or after they are regularly scheduled.

Additionally, the following adjustments will be in effect: 

Aug. 18- 20

Southbound: 

  • The Aurora GO 10:57 to Union Station 11:39 will begin at Maple GO. 
  • The Aurora GO 15:04 to Union Station 15:54 will begin at Maple GO. 
  • The Aurora GO 20:55 to Union Station 21:46 will not run. 
  • The Allandale Waterfront GO 21:10 to Union Station 22:52 will not run. 

Northbound: 

  • The Union Station 13:00 to Aurora GO 13:44 will end at Maple GO. 
  • The Union Station 19:54 to Aurora GO 20:44 will be extended to make all stops to Allandale Waterfront GO. 
  • The Union Station 20:54 to Aurora GO 21:44 will not run. 
  • The Union Station 22:01 to Allandale Waterfront GO 23:44 will not run. 
  • The Union Station 22:54 to Allandale Waterfront GO 00:37 will not run. 

Aug. 22- 23

Northbound:

  • The Union Station 10:56 to Aurora GO 11:44, will end at Maple GO.
    • A GO bus will depart Maple GO at 11:35 to connect customers to King City and Aurora GO.
  • The Union Station 13:56 to Aurora GO 14:44, will end at Maple GO.
    • A GO bus will depart Maple GO at 14:35 to connect customers to King City and Aurora GO.
  • The Union Station 16:56 to Aurora GO 17:44, will end at Maple GO.
    • If you’re intending to travel to King City or Aurora GO at this time, you will need to take the GO bus departing Union Station Bus Terminal at 16:15.


Regular Barrie line train service will resume on Saturday, August 29.

Please check your schedules before travelling to choose the departure times that work best for your commute.

How to pay for your trip:

If you are travelling with a PRESTO, credit or Interac debit card;

To ensure you are charged the correct fare, please tap your PRESTO, credit or Interac debitcard at every point of your journey:

  • Before boarding a train, tap on at the station.
  • When exiting the train, tap off at your destination station, unless your card already has a default trip set for that journey.
  • If you are transferring to a bus, tap on when you board and tap off when you exit.
  • This helps ensure your fare is calculated accurately throughout your trip.  

If you’re travelling with an e- ticket;

  • Ensure you have activated your ticket before boarding your train or bus.
  • Data is required for purchasing and activating your e-ticket.

If you are travelling with a paper ticket;

Connecting between GO and TTC? Save with One Fare

Ontario’s One Fare applies when you pay your fare with a physical PRESTO card, PRESTO in Mobile Wallet, or with a contactless credit or debit card. It does not apply for cash fare or ticket products. You must use the same card throughout your entire trip.

What type of work is happening?

During the closure, crews are conducting foundational work for a second track and line improvements, including installing culverts, utilities, and signaling works. As part of GO Expansion, crews are also carrying out work at Aurora GO Station, the future Bloor-Lansdowne GO Station and completing essential maintenance on the Barrie line.
