A snowmobiler is facing penalties after trying to flee a Southern Georgian Bay OPP RIDE program in Tiny on Friday evening.
Police say as the machine approached the officers' location on Marshall Road at the OFSC Trail, they signaled the rider to stop, but he attempted to evade them. That prompted the officers to shut the machine off by activating its killswitch.
Once the driver tried to restart the snowmobile, police removed the ignition key to prevent him from fleeing.
The 53-year-old man from New Lowell provided a breath sample, which resulted in an "alert" on the screening device. That led to his driver's licence being seized and a 14-day suspension
Police say they also laid two additional charges for documentation-related offences.
"Impaired snowmobiling puts both riders and the broader trail community at risk," OPP said in a release. "With the support of technologies such as in‑car and body‑worn cameras, officers are better equipped to identify unsafe operation and help keep our trail system safe."
