Alliston man charged after armed robbery at ATM

Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a 36-year-old Alliston man after an armed robbery at an ATM in Markdale.

Police say a person was using the ATM shortly after 10:30 p.m. on January 23, 2025 when the suspect brandishing a handgun allegedly assaulted the individual and demanded they withdraw funds from the machine.

Investigators identified the accused through video surveillance and he was taken into custody the following day.

Police say the firearm was an imitation.

The accused has been charged with the following:

  • Armed Robbery
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order - six counts

The accused was held for a bail hearing and subsequently remanded into custody.
