Georgian College is hosting its 15th annual Pow Wow at the Barrie Campus Athletic Centre on March 14th.
Doors open at 10:30 a.m. And the Grand Entry will happen at noon and a second will be at 7 p.m. The event is set to wrap up at 9 p.m.
A Pow Wow is a traditional celebration of Indigenous culture and everyone is invited to take part at no cost; including staff, students and the public. Donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted and added to the Georgian campus food bank.
“Every year we have amazing dancers, drummers and crafters come together to make this a really special event,” said Special Events Co-ordinator Beedahsiga Elliott. “Just as our ancestors have done before, we come together to sing, to share and to dance. As we dance in the circle to the heartbeat of Mother Earth, we rekindle the connection we have to her and we honour those who are here, those who have come before us and those who will be hereafter us.”
Those who have never attended a Pow Wow before are encouraged to come sample the traditional food, crafts and festivities. A free dinner will be served at 5 p.m. and there will be a hand drum competition at that time as well.
