Back in your teenage years, babysitting was a sweet gig.

The families I babysat for always said, "Help yourself to any food," and that's what I did, within reason, of course.

A recent Reddit post asked, "Should a babysitter pay back the family for a few slices of cake she ate while at their house?

This was the hot topic on the subreddit AITA (Am I the A$$hole)

A teen was babysitting her young cousins and ate two pieces of leftover birthday cake from two weeks prior.

Her aunt later called her mother, demanding that she be compensated for the cake that was eaten because it was "an expensive cake."

She said she should pay her around $20 to make it even.

Thankfully, most agreed that not paying her back is reasonable, especially for a stale cake.

One comment suggests the sister ask a bakery about the declining rate of baked goods day by day.

"Losing safe and reliable babysitting over two-week old cake is a weird hill to die on, said one supporter.

"Your daughter has likely eaten there while babysitting and didn't expect a two-week-old cake that wasn't popular at the party would be a big deal. You shouldn't pay her for the slices."

Another commented

"As a Mom, I'd feel rude telling any babysitter they can't eat something. My favourite part of babysitting as a poor kid with a health-nut mom was opening the fridge and having all these new foods available to me. I go out of my way to have a ton of fun food if I get a babysitter because it's pretty damn boring, and it's the least I can do."

The original poster added they are at a stalemate and have yet to come to a resolution.
