Plans for the live-action remake of Disney's Bambi is in the works, and Canada's own Sarah Polley could direct.
Nothing's official, but Disney is reportedly negotiating with her to recreate the classic story, which turns 100 this year.
Polley recently won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for "Women Talking."
Reports say the adaptation will be a musical, but other details are being kept under wraps, including if it will be a theatrical release or straight to streaming.
The first thing that comes to mind with Bambi is the tragedy in the first few minutes of the original film that saw Bambi's mother killed by a hunter.
Decades later, a similar death played out in "The Lion King," and the live-action remake of that scene was also a gut punch.
Bambi was Disney's 5th animated film and went on to earn $267 million worldwide over its original release and copious reissues.
The book was released in 1923, but wasn't made into a film until 1942.
