Barrie Police spokesperson Peter Leon says it's a unique investigation.
He tells Barrie 360 they received an online report from a third-hand party about a possible assault or attempted abduction in the back parking lot of the Bayfield Mall around 10:50 p.m. on Friday, June 24.
"We do believe strongly there is a victim, and we believe there were people at the time that were in the parking lot that may have been either driving through or simply parked in their vehicles and may have observed an interaction of some sort that took place where a female very abruptly exited a vehicle," says Leon.
Police believe the woman could be in her mid-to-late 20s, possibly even early 30s.
"We're working on some very limited information," says Leon. "The call was not dispatched to us, but rather the concerned person who made the report did so by way of our online reporting."
The information was provided a few days after what the individual is said to have witnessed.

Police have spoken to that person and Leon says they continue to provide additional details which have been helpful.
"We don't know who our victim is," says Leon. "That's what we're trying to determine, and the well-being of that individual."
