News release from the City of Barrie
As part of the City of Barrie’s effort to tackle the affordable housing crisis, an Affordable Housing Symposium will be held on May 4 from 4 to 8 p.m.
The event, taking place at Southshore Community Centre (205 Lakeshore Drive, Barrie), is open to everyone. It will feature the following:
- a screening of the documentary Searching for Home, including a question and answer session with the people featured in the documentary, as well as Dr. Naomi Thulien, the lead researcher on the film
- a panel discussion with guests from across the housing spectrum, including an urban planner/designer, social and community services representation, and local developers
- a showcase of some of the work done on the City’s New Foundations initiative
- a number of booths featuring housing advocates and organizations
- public consultation opportunities on the City’s Affordable Housing Strategy update
At the symposium, the City will welcome feedback from residents, potential homeowners, businesses, and developers regarding affordable housing.
