Barrie-Area MPP says emergency funding will help cover costs of homelessness services in Simcoe County

County to receive over $2 million

The County of Simcoe is getting an over $2 million boost for its services helping folks experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

The Province of Ontario is putting $148 million towards Ontario homelessness supports. Barrie-Springwater-Oro Medonte MPP Doug Downey says this includes $2,440,500 towards Simcoe County. The money will go towards the expansion of services including shelters.

“This funding can be used by Simcoe County to help find ways for people to self-isolate such as using motels and hotels, hiring extra staff for shelters and buying protective equipment,” said MPP Downey, “This funding is critical to help us protect our most vulnerable throughout this crisis.”

The funding comes as part of the Ontario Government’s multi-million dollar relief funding.
