City of Barrie to award $118,000 to community organizations

Money comes from a recreation and sport grant

Fifteen Barrie-based organizations will receive a share of more than $118,000 in funding through the City’s 2023 Recreation and Sport Community Grant. Applications were evaluated by a panel and all panel members independently evaluated each application using a scoring matrix.

Organizations will be awarded funding in one of two categories: programming/events to support new or innovative recreation and sport opportunities, or capital improvement projects. The list of organizations that will receive funding, the amount each will receive and the purpose of the funding follows.

Barrie Pickleball Club$3,286Pilot a youth instructional program.

Living Green Barrie$2,300Support the execution of Ride Your Bike Day (on-site first aid, water filling stations, music and entertainment).

“The successful applications represent a wide cross-section of recreational and sport activities designed to engage Barrie residents in various ways with the end result of improving overall health and well-being,” says Dan Bell, Director, Recreation & Culture Services.

The City is planning an additional intake period for the 2023 program in late summer, for fall and winter initiatives.
