The city is hosting the third Public Information Centre (PIC) next week on the Bayfield Street Transportation Improvements Project, to share information and gather public input:

Date:                 Thursday, May 29, 2025
Time:                 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (drop in anytime)
Location:        City Hall, 70 Collier Street, Barrie (access via rear parking lot entrance doors)

Members of the public are welcome to attend the PIC and speak with the project team. At this drop-in event, the latest project information will be shared, including the preferred design solution, which includes the addition of a travel lane in each direction, improved pedestrian and transit stop infrastructure, the addition of cycling infrastructure and a raised median.

The city has hosted two previous PICs and has been gathering input on this project since early 2024. In addition to attending the event, residents can also get involved and provide feedback at buildingbarrie.ca/BayfieldStudy.

About the Bayfield Street Transportation Improvements Project:

The City of Barrie will be making transportation improvements on Bayfield Street and wants to hear from residents and business owners on the proposed improvements to reduce congestion and improve safety for all road users.

The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is planning to replace the existing Bayfield Street interchange and bridge, tentatively starting as early as 2026 or 2027. To support MTO’s project, the City needs to make transportation improvements on Bayfield Street north of the interchange, as well as work with the MTO to incorporate active transportation infrastructure within their project limits.

After gathering all public input, the project team will complete the study and present recommendations to Barrie City Council in late 2025. Subject to Council and budget approvals, construction of the City’s improvements on Bayfield Street is currently anticipated to start following completion of the MTO’s project.
