Barrie ranked number 34 in a recent unofficial ranking of the 51 most child-friendly cities in Canada.
The review site Clever Canadian put Quebec City in the top spot.
The Quebec capital received high marks for its low crime rate and subsidized daycare centres, as well as for affordable housing, "exceptional" health-care and medical system.
Ottawa placed second for its "amazing" elementary and secondary schools, safe and convenient public transit as well as many kid-friendly neighbourhoods.
Calgary placed third for affordability, safety, and lots of daycares and parks.
The decision-making process was based on 10 factors, including population, number of families with kids, unemployment rate, safety index, average household income, average household monthly costs, median monthly daycare cost, number of daycares, number of parks and median house price.
Barrie was red-flagged for median house price ($944,000), unemployment rate (7.7%) and median monthly daycare cost ($1,320). However, the report said Barrie is one of the safest cities on the list and should be considered if families like the outdoors.
