Barrie & District Christmas Cheer in desperate need of donations

Christmas Cheer is not even half-way to fundraising and donation goal

Release – Barrie and District Christmas Cheer

Heading into the second week of December, board members of Barrie & District Christmas Cheer are very concerned that donations are dangerously low at this stage of the campaign. Christmas Cheer is currently sitting at $110,000 raised which is a far cry from their ultimate goal of raising $280,000 – an increase from last year’s goal.

Online and in-person applications are coming in at a rapid pace. And Christmas Cheer has anticipated that the need in 2022 will be much higher than in previous years as the cost of inflation is hitting Barrie and area families hard.

“We’ve noticed a major lack in physical donations this year, following a two-year hiatus of not being able to collect food and toys,” said Christmas Cheer President, Steph Quenneville. “We’re hoping that the community can come together to ensure we have toys to pack, right now the tables are looking pretty bare.”

Christmas Cheer is asking the community for the following items:

  • Boy toys ages 7-10 years
  • Girl toys ages 7-10 years
  • Puzzles – all ages
  • Stuffed animals – all ages
  • Hats/Mitts – all ages

Along with food and toys, Barrie & District Christmas Cheer is accepting cash donations, which can be made directly through their website,, or by texting the word: CHEER to 30333(donation amount will be added to your wireless phone bill).

Barrie & District Christmas Cheer is an organization that depends heavily on the generosity of the community, local business owners and corporate sponsors to ensure that nearly 1,700 families in Barrie, Innisfil, Angus, Oro-Medonte and surrounding area have a magical Christmas morning.
