If recent trades are any indication, the Barrie Colts seem to have their sights set on the future. The Colts had already been busy head of the trade deadline, trading away Captain Jason Wilms and several other familiar faces ahead of Thursday night’s game with Sudbury. But the Colts saved their biggest move for Friday, when they shipped former 1st overall pick Ryan Suzuki, forward Peter Fleming, Ryan Beck & a 5th round pick to Saginaw in exchange for Connor Punnett, Ethan Cardwell, two 2nd round picks, two 3rd round picks and a 5th round pick.
Suzuki suffered an eye injury in early November that kept him out of the lineup for about a month, but since returning the Carolina prospect had scored just one goal in 8 games. It is unlikely that Suzuki would have returned to the Colts next season, as he will most likely find himself playing in the NHL.
The Colts are in action Friday, on the road against the London Knights.
