City police say a 30-year-old Barrie woman sustained serious, life-threatening injuries following a crash in the south end.

On Tuesday just before 3 p.m., officials with the Barrie Police Service say they received a report about a collision at the intersection of Welham Road and Ellis Drive.

"Police have determined that a sport utility vehicle (SUV) was travelling northbound on Welham Rd. when it was struck by a westbound flatbed-style truck," officers said in a release on Wednesday.

"The resulting collision sent both drivers to local hospital."

Police added that the driver of the SUV, a Barrie woman, was later airlifted to a Toronto area trauma centre.

The intersection was closed until 9:30 p.m.

Officers say the investigation is ongoing and anyone who may have witnessed it or was travelling in the area and has dash camera video is asked to please contact Detective Constable Langdon at dlangdon@barriepolice.ca.
