A R.I.D.E. program and subsequent investigation early Friday morning led to the arrest of a Barrie driver in Orillia by Orillia OPP.

Just before 1:30 a.m., a vehicle approached a R.I.D.E. program stationed on Atherley Road. Upon speaking to the driver, the officer began investigating them for impaired operation.

The driver was arrested at the scene and was brought to the Orillia OPP detachment to be tested further by a drug recognition officer.

Eventually, a 23-year-old from Barrie was charged with impaired operation, having cannabis readily available in the vehicle, and having a drug present while being a novice driver.

The accused was released with a future court date. Additionally, their driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for 7 days.
