The door is quickly closing on the Barrie Food Bank's (BFB) spring campaign and the organization is one-third of the way to meeting its target for financial donations and 75 per cent for food donations.
"We've seen an incredible outpouring of support from our community throughout this campaign, and we are immensely grateful for each and every donation," said Sharon Palmer, Executive Director of the Barrie Food Bank. "However, with just one week left, we find ourselves in need of additional support to ensure we can continue providing essential food items to those facing food insecurity in our community."
Over the past few months, the BFB has provided food support to about 7,200 individuals in the community. On the positive, the food bank says the number has levelled off, though officials add "it takes a lot of food to meet the need."
Financial donations help the food bank purchase meat, milk, eggs and produce.
Official say the spring campaign is crucial to keeping the shelves stocked throughout the spring and summer.
"We know that our community is incredibly generous and caring," added Palmer. "With your continued support, we can ensure that no one in Barrie has to go hungry."
