Barrie has the highest employment rate in the country

"Another great month for the red-hot Barrie economy"

Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman says the October jobs numbers from Statistics Canada show Barrie has the highest employment in Canada, which means a higher percentage of the city’s population is employed compared to other urban areas.

“Another great month for the red-hot Barrie economy,” he told Barrie 360. “Unemployment (was) down to 5.4%, almost a full point lower than in September… on strong job growth in October.”

Lehman said it speaks to both “our high percentage of working families and the strength of the economy. Given what we’re seeing in building permits and in the south end, construction, and manufacturing are part of the story.”

Canada-wide, the unemployment rate fell to 6.9 per cent last month from 7.1 per cent in September, with the addition of 157,000 jobs.
