Clean up from the late March ice storm continues across the City of Barrie, and crews are making positive progress.
In response to the ice storm, the City of Barrie declared a significant weather event on March 29, 2025. This declaration was made in accordance with the Ontario Regulation for Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways.
As of 11 a.m. on April 25, 2025, the significant weather event is declared to be over, since there is no winter road or sidewalk maintenance activity taking place at this time, nor is there expected to be any given the warmer weather that is forecasted. According to the provincial legislation, the municipality must provide notice once the significant weather event has ended.

Streets in Barrie that were closed due to fallen trees or branches are fully open and crews have cleared sidewalks of tree debris.
City staff, with the assistance of other municipalities in Ontario and external contractors, continue to clean up any brush that is piled at the curb. As of April 25, crews have been able to make a first pass of 98 per cent of the city to collect debris at the curb. Crews will be making multiple passes across Barrie until everything is cleaned up.
For your safety, please continue to stay out of trails and treed areas in City parks, and refrain from attempting cleanup on your property if you feel the area remains unsafe due to continued falling branches.
