Barrie makes changes to keep curbside collection drivers safe

City asking to place items like napkins in a garbage bag rather than the green bin

Barrie residents are being asked to place facial tissues, paper towels and napkins in a securely tied garbage bag instead of the green bin. This is being done in an effort to keep curbside collection drivers safe during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The City reminds residents to make sure cleaning wipes go in the garbage. They cannot go in the green bin and should not be flushed. Residents must make sure to sort garbage, green bin and recyling material properly. If not sure where an item goes, check the City’s online look up tool at www.barrie.ca/WhereDoesItGo

All collection trucks are equipped with sanitizer and the contractor has masks and gloves available for all collectors.

In addition, the City’s annual Spring into Clean events that happen in late April have been cancelled.
