Barrie man charged in child porn bust

Suspect is accused of obtaining photos from people who identified as being under the age of 18

Barrie police have seized computer devices for forensic analysis following an arrest on Wednesday in connection with a child pornography investigation.

The Barrie Police Internet Child Exploitation Unit charged a 36-year-old Barrie man with possession of child pornography, accessing child pornography, and distribution of child pornography.

Police say the accused, who has been held for a bail hearing, used social media platforms and engaged in numerous chats to obtain photos of people who identified under the age of 18.

The suspect is not being identified, according to police, so as not to risk the possibility of identifying any victims.
