Barrie man facing future court date after stolen vehicle drunkenly driven into Bradford ditch

K9 unit brought out to track driver through the woods

Police have cuffed a Barrie man after a stolen vehicle ended up in the ditch.

Officers with the South Simcoe Police Service were called out to the 11th Line and 20th Sideroad of Bradford just before 8 a.m. Sunday with reports of a vehicle in the ditch. Police were told a man was seen near the vehicle, walking into some nearby bushes. Due to the cold weather and terrain in the area, the K9 unit was called out to track the man.

Meanwhile, a man was arrested by other officers nearby and charged with public intoxication. Following an investigation by officers combined with clues sniffed out by the K9 unit, it was determined not only was that man the driver of the ditched vehicle, but that the vehicle was stolen.

A 29-year-old man faces charges of theft, possession of stolen property, public intoxication, driving while prohibited, and mischief.
